Microblogging Attacked

In news-censored mainland China, the CCP(Chinese Communist Party) controls
information. Many can only guess the state of disasters.
Microbloggingplatforms are quickly becoming a channel for rare, real
facts. On August 3, the CCP's mouthpiece media, CCTV questionedwhether
microblogging misinforms people about the crash, and accused microblogging
of sending out false messages.

Netizens believe it to be a sign thatthe CCP is trying to attack
microblogging.

"Godfather, godmother and daughter;Red mansion, Red Songs and the Red
Cross;"Speedy train, moving people and spirits;Iron face, iron heart and
Ministry of Railways."The scroll reads "No Truth."

These are the recent rapidly spreading microblogging couplets.

They mock officials' mismanagement of the train crashand the corruption in
Red Cross.Netizens express their anger in doggerels,so as to avoid
immediate deletion from online forums.

In just a few years, microblogging has become a new kindof network media,
and a useful tool for public information. How fast is microblogging? Four
minutes after the train crash,

A Netizen Yuan Xiaoyuan who was on the train blogged:"D301 train crashed in
Wenzhou."A sudden emergency stop and then two big crashes! All the power is
off! I am in the last carriage."This message was two hours quicker
thanChina's mainland "news agency."

Li Tianxiao, Columbia University Ph.D. in political science:"This time the
micro-blog played a huge boost to the truth. And people can get real
information from it. Mainland mediaare under fire as the real facts were
provided by microblogs.

However, the CCP mouthpiece media have different opinionson the microblogs'
quick information-delivering function.

On Aug. 3, CCTV aired the program 'Microblogs' Dilemma,'questioning the
platform's "moral and ethical base line."It accused microblogging of
providing false information, insisting that there is "manipulation" behind
the scenes.

This program fueled a lively discussion among netizens. Some questioned why
US never denied such online rumors."Even blogs suggesting the 9/11 was done
by Americans, they never ban these kinds of rumors."Netizens concluded that
rumors cause no harm to truth.Only where there is no truth will there be
fears of rumors.

Li: "In China's one-party ruling circumstances, truth has its own special
meaning. It refers to CCP's corruption. The phenomenon of corruption in
China is everywhere.

All CCP officials are corrupt, from top to bottom, from theeconomic to the
political arena. Corruption is in every corner."

Another netizen commented, "Anyone could askthis question, except CCTV,
which is the CCP's mouthpiece. It talks no ethics, no politics. They only
talk about power."

Chen Po Kong (political commentator): "Because CCPbelieves 'a lie repeated
1000 times becomes the truth,'today pro-CCP people agree with CCP's views,
and they havea wrong understanding of China's current situation. Many
brainwashed people believe what CCP say is the truth."

Internet writer Zhang Hongquan also pointed out that,CCTV has a lot of
false and misleading programs. If you search "CCTV false news" in search
engine Baidu, you will find a lot of fake news with pictures. This can be
developed into a special reportcalled "CCTV's Confusion."

In his article, Zhang wrote: "Microblogginghas been accepted by the
majority of the people. It's because it is telling the truth very
promptly.CCTV at this point needs to learn from microblogging."
