Outrage as bleeding China toddler left on street

Several days ago, a two-year old toddler named Yueyuewas run over twice by
vehicles in Foshan City, Guangdong province, China. She was also ignored by
more than a dozen passers-by.This shocking event has sparked extensive
discussions around the world.

What happened to Yueyue has drawn immense attentionfrom both the public and
media, including many westerners who were completelyastonished.

On Oct 18th, the Frankfurt General Newspaper in Germanywrote: "almost every
Chinese can tell a similar story. For example the one young man who was sued
in court, rather than thanked, after he kindly helped an old woman who had
tumbled. These horrible occurrences to kind-hearted people have
hauntedChinese people's minds."

In France, many news media cited the report from AgenceFrance-Presse title
d More than a dozen passers-by ignoreda two-year-old girl as she lay
critically injured on a streetin southern China after being run over
twice".In India, the news report said that "the tragedy of Yueyue hasspread
like wildfire on the internet".

Though the official agency, Foshan Spiritual Civilization Officeannounced
that this event is only an isolated incident. However, a survey among three
universities in Beijing showedthat 87% of respondents acknowledged thatthey
wouldn't help any person whohad slipped to avoid being trapped in trouble.

A Chinese freelancer and former editor of Hebei People'sRadio Station, Zhu
Xinxin, commented, "it is the CCP'sdictatorship which destroys the social
morality in China;Chinese people are never awarded any rights.Hence they
lose their sense of responsibility at the same time."

Zhu Xinxin: "The lack of morality largely stems from the lackof rights.
When people are deprived of their rights in politics, economics, culture,
religion and self-protection, they won't feelresponsible for anything."

The lecturer in China University of Political Science and Law,Wu Renhua,
said that among what the CCP has done to Chinese people and society, the
worst is the thorough destruction of the social moral system.

Wu added that it might take great efforts from several generations
torecover such a system.

Wu Renhua:"The most horrifying is not the political regimewhich we are all
currently criticizing, because it's not that difficult to makeit
change.Instead, the most horrifying thing is that since 1949, the CCPhas
always been destroying the Chinese traditional cultureand its moral system
through continuous political movementssupported by the dictatorship
regime. The destruction is a systematic and thorough one, which make things
even worse."

Since the Tiananmen Square Massacre in 1989,unusual social events which
deviate from common sense have never ceased to emergein China. However,
Chinese people are truly shocked this time.

According to Southern Metropolis Daily's report, some professors and
scholars suggest building a memorial for the tragedy ofYueyueto record the
moral level of the times" and remind everyoneto "get back the feeling of
shame to correct our behavior with courage".

Zhu Xinxin said, "it has been proven a complete failurefor political power
to play a central role in building up or maintaining a moralsystem. The
build-up of moral sense requires self-awareness,which is most strengthened
in one's religious life. Therefore it's definitely necessary to
recoverChinese people's religious belief".

Zhu Xinxin: "First, Chinese people need to overturnthe privileges protected
by the dictatorship which have been far beyond itsnatural limit at
present, and get back their own civil rights, especially freedom of
religion, because it is the religious beliefs which provide the power to
build up socialmorality."

Wu Renhua commented in a similar tone that,"the Chinese need to question
ourselves as such an event happens."He further suggested that every Chinese
should not laugh atthose 18 passers-by who didn't help Yueyue.Wu said,
"When the blind civil rights activist Chen Guangchengwas persecuted, the
reaction of most Chinese was quite similar to thosepassers-by, wasn't it?"

Wu Renhua:"There have been numerous criticisms of the CCPand its political
regime in mainland China. However, as Chinese we should also ask
ourselvessuch a question, 'why could the CCP's dictatorship, the most
atrocious and corrupt government in history, still exist in China?' We need
to think about our own responsibility."

Human rights activist Chen Kai commented, "the Chineseneed to change their
notions that 'legitimacy belongs to the victor.'what we need now is to
stick to our dignity, protect our rights and enhance our sense of justice."
